The projects and examples below are some of self-paced volunteer opportunities that can be done at (almost) anytime. These volunteer opportunities are not typically communicated widely via email or through classroom means. These can be helpful if you have a busy schedule or if you're looking for a project at your own pace. For more information, please inquire with chapter leadership or at one of the classes. Volunteer time that can be earned with participation in the following activities.
Southeast Idaho | Build/Install Nesting Boxes 🔨
Nesting boxes can be a vital resource to conserving the native bird species around the area. Building and installing nesting boxes can be a rewarding way to give back to our local birds, and earn some volunteer time along the way. HDMN Board Member Duane Dyer has donated these helpful instructions to get started on building bird houses.

Southeast Idaho | Native Seed Collection 🌰
Seed collecting can provide much needed resources for future conservation work by partners and projects through southeast Idaho. There may be may be specific volunteer events organizing seed collection, but volunteer time may be earned by collecting seeds from vital plant species. Need may vary from year to year.
Mid-summer through fall
Edson Fichter Nature Area | Weeding and Litter Cleanup 🌱
Our beloved local nature area could always use some extra care and attention. While there are specific volunteer events calling for weeding and planting at EFNA, volunteer time can also be earned anytime by helping to weed the pollinator garden and providing doing some litter cleanup anytime of year.

Get credit (3 min/observation) for submitting observations of flora and fauna as a part of the High Desert Master Naturalists iNaturalist project. These observations can be instrumental in assisting conservation projects throughout the state.
